Puppetry in Practice
Puppetry in Practice and PS 28 have been partners for over 10 years! Puppetry in Practice is an independent, not-for-profit organization housed in the School of Education at Brooklyn College. PiP is committed to using the arts as a lens through which students experience, learn from and appreciate the world's rich history of ideas, cultures, and imagination. PiP uses a multiarts approach to language learning and literacy.
PiP uses the creative arts to enhance literacy, spark curiosity and imagination, and engage in cultural immersions in the countries of origin that make our city great. Through their work students learn how to be creative, work as a team, problem solve and vocalize their opinions and thoughts. Check out the amazing projects made by the students of PS 28.
Stop Animation Creations
Students worked with Mr. Jason on creating stop animation movies. Throughout this process students worked in teams to tell a story or teach about a New York City Landmark. They drew, built and created characters and props for their movie. They then learned how to set up and use the stop animation program Zu3D in order to make a stop animation movie. Inspired by Chinese New Year and the book "The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac" by Dawn Casey children created their own stop animation videos about The Great Race. During their work students discussed literary elements such as characters, setting and plot. Watch the video below to see "The Great Race" created by the Second Graders at PS 28.
PS 28 - The Chameleon - Class 2-4
Class 2-4 worked with Puppetry in Practice artists to create this stop motion animation based on the Jack Prelutsky poem, "The Chameleon." Students worked in small groups to create the animated scenes included in this film.

Inspired by the book "Too Much Noise" by Cindy Brown children created their own stop animation video. During their work students discussed literary elements such as characters, setting, plot and problem and solution. "Too Much" was created by the first graders at P.S. 28.
Puppetry
Students worked with Mr. Lu, Ellie and Tony the monkey to learn all about the artistry of puppetry! First the students watched a puppet show with Mr. Lu and many different puppets. Then students worked on creating and designing their own puppets. They also worked as a team to create a set for their puppet show. Throughout this process students were encouraged to be creative and talk by putting on their own puppet shows. Check out the photos below to see our P.S 28 puppeteers hard at work and having fun!
